Red Hills Desert Garden is Utah’s first desert conservation garden nestled in the heart of St. George. Spread across five acres of desert terrain, it offers a unique and immersive experience for visitors to explore the beauty and resilience of desert landscapes. The garden is curated by the Washington County Water Conservancy District as a community resource to demonstrate the beauty and value of water efficient landscaping.

Walking along meandering pathways, visitors encounter more than 5,000 plants curated to thrive in the arid climate. Vibrant succulents, hardy shrubs and desert-adapted trees adorn the landscape, showcasing the remarkable adaptations that enable desert plants to survive in harsh conditions.

In addition to its botanical wonders, Red Hills Desert Garden features a 1,150-foot stream stocked with native and endangered fish species, a replica slot canyon and prehistoric dinosaur tracks found onsite dating back 200 million years.

From its stunning red rock backdrop, the garden also offers panoramic views of the surrounding community, providing a serene oasis for contemplation and reflection. Benches and shaded areas invite visitors to sit and savor the tranquility of the desert environment.

Educational programs are hosted in the garden and the adjacent offices of the Washington County Water Conservancy District. For more information on educational programs, visit our events page.
